Who Plunges Support
Every Plunge makes a difference for more than 8,100 Special Olympics Minnesota athletes. Special Olympics Minnesota offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and competition. Through Special Olympics’ athletic, health and leadership programs, people with intellectual disabilities transform themselves, their communities and the world. Funds raised through the Polar Plunge help to support programs such as Young Athletes, Unified Sports, Healthy Athletes and Athlete Leadership Programs, to name a few. - 2016 marks the 19th year of the Polar Plunge in Minnesota. Our dedicated participants have been braving frigid waters since 1998 at Como Lake, where 65 plungers raised $20,000.
- In 2005, 100 Plungers raised $275,000—and ten years later in 2015, we had over 15,500 participants raising over $4 million for Special Olympics Minnesota! At this rate, just imagine what 2016 will bring!
Without the support of Law Enforcement, there would be no Polar Plunge!
Plunges are a part of the year-round fundraising program called the Law Enforcement Torch Run, through which law enforcement personnel across the state raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Minnesota.
These dedicated men and women are the energy and effort behind many of our events and programs. Be sure to give them a big ol’ Plunge THANK YOU when you see them at our events. We couldn’t do it without them!
